Breeds Targeted in Italy
This list was originally published
September 12, 2003. In addition to all dog's within the FCI's Group 1 and Group
2, the Italian government also included the "pitbull" and the Great
Japanese Dog.
I'm still confirming the exact
restrictions, but it looks like the following:
- muzzled in public
- leashed in public
- specific mention of muzzling and
leashing on public transit
- liability insurance
- not allowed to be owned by
convicted criminals (certain crimes only)
- not allowed to be walked by minors
On September 13, 2004, an additional
list was published listing 18 breeds considered by the Italian government to be
particularly prone to aggression.
Three of these (pit bull, pit bull
mastiff, and pit bull terrier) have been combined into one line for the purposes
of this table, thus reducing the "aggressive" list to 16.
I have not been able to confirm if
there any additional restrictions on these "aggressive" breeds.
